#NewRelease THE FOX AND THE HOUND 2 is live!

I’m so excited to bring back Jayla and Noah! If you read The Fox and The Hound, my novella in Susan Stoker’s Special Forces: Operation Alpha Kindle World, then get prepared, because Fox and Hound are back and on a wild ride as they try and take down one arm of the Russian Mafia.

Wren Michaels - The Fox and The Hound 2 Kisses From The KremlinJayla “Fox” McFadden is still trying to figure out who wants her dead. But even worse, her brand new relationship with Noah “Hound” Kendrick feels like it’s already on the rocks. She’s never been girlfriend material, and the pressure is on with each awkward moment they spend together trying to have a ‘normal’ life. But a CIA spy and a Navy SEAL are far from normal. When her next mission takes her to Russia, she’s almost thankful for the time away to think.

Hound’s Navy SEAL team gets orders to blow up one arm of the Russian Mafia. But when Noah learns of Jayla’s involvement in the mission, his strict orders to kill anyone and everyone associated with the case don’t sit well with him, and he’s forced to choose Fox or his country.

Taking down the Russian mafia will be easy, finding out Jayla’s long lost father is a part of it, not so much. The Fox and The Hound take on the government, the mafia, and each other in a battle of love, lies, and loss.

What do you do with the man who rescued you from a terrorist, saved you from drowning, and threw his life down for you during a hurricane?

You take him home to meet your asshole cat.

Mal was an excellent judge of character, but a cat of few meows. He was kind of like the adult still living in their parent’s basement; played with his balls, got high on catnip, and slept. Still, one hiss from him in a guy’s general direction and Jayla knew to kick the dude to the curb. Cats sensed evil.

So, bringing Noah home to pass the cat test was a big deal. But what if Mal got jacked up on cat-crack right before they got there and wasn’t in his right mind? It could blow everything. Not to mention, Noah had already given her his Budweiser, his sacred SEAL Trident Pin. Jayla’s head still spun from disbelief.

It had only been a little over a month since she met Noah at a BBQ thrown by her co-worker, Caroline Steele. They hadn’t exactly ‘hit it off,’ per se. Oh sure, their sexual chemistry shot off the charts. But he was a SEAL, and Jayla had sworn them off thanks to James McFadden—also known as Daddy Dearest—who took off after knocking up a woman while he was deployed.

Okay, Jayla had daddy issues. She knew that. Noah knew it, too, and he still wanted to date her. Even though it took him a while to tell her that, because men could be stubborn and thick-headed.

Oh, Noah was definitely thick-headed. She found that out the night they made love after washing up on a deserted island. Which brought up the next point, they were bound to have sex again. While Jayla most definitely wanted to, they hadn’t even really been on a ‘date’ yet. They’d been locked in a bathroom, shot at, nearly drowned, and had sex in a hurricane. What if they didn’t have a single thing in common? Would he expect to throw down in her living room after Mal approved?

Nerves twisted her stomach into a tight knot. The reality of the situation unveiled itself in her mind on the drive back to her condo. Noah sat in silence beside her. What if he was thinking the same thing?

She uncurled her fingers from the vice-grip on the steering wheel and caressed the pin clipped to her white lab-coat. He chose her. That had to mean he’d thought things out. He wouldn’t just willy-nilly give his Budweiser to anyone, right?

She chanced a glance in his direction, not wanting to alert him that she’d spent the entire twenty-minute drive to her condo contemplating their brand new twenty-five-minute-old relationship. But he caught her. Like he always did. Somehow she, Jayla “Fox” McFadden—Forensic Toxicologist, CIA Spy, and Xena: Warrior Princess—had managed to let him rescue her more times than she’d needed in her entire twenty-eight year existence.

This time though, he caught her falling in love with him.

“I’m afraid to ask what’s going on in that head of yours,” Noah said, finally breaking the silence. “You worried about that text from the CIA? You really don’t think they’re out to kill you, do you?”

Oh right, the CIA. She’d almost completely blocked that from her thoughts. Because who wanted to think about someone out to kill you, especially when it’s the people you work for. Well, forced to work for anyway. If she had to choose a side, she’d go independent. Maybe once she paid her debt off to the government, she’d do just that. Fox McFadden—Your go-to girl to get the job done … depending on the job, like a MacGyver for hire. He was sort of indie, wasn’t he?

Since her botched undercover mission to retrieve intel from arms dealer, Abdul-Mu’eid Bahri, ended up revealing that someone ratted her out, she had very little trust in anyone connected to the government. She tossed another side-eye to the Navy SEAL sitting beside her. Except Noah, because if he wanted to kill her, he could have done so instead of saving her life. That was one of two names on the very short list of people she did trust.

The other was her best friend and co-worker, Melinda Emerson. Except, now Melinda, too, had folks after her—who turned out to be the Russian Mafia—specifically for her knowledge on a super mind-enhancing drug. Because why not throw those rag-tag bunch of fun guys into the mix?

Noah turned in his seat. “I won’t leave your side.”

Jayla jerked her head. “What are you talking about?”

“You’re worried. I see it in your eyes.”

“My eyes are focused on the road. You know, because I’m driving?”

“They’re angry eyes. The same kind you had when we were trapped on the island. Not the ones that sparkled, wide and full of wonder about half-an-hour ago when we were kissing in the parking lot at your office. Not to mention, you’re quiet. You’re never quiet. You always have something to say, Jayla. Your silence is more frightening than words.”

“How do you even know that? I haven’t seen you in weeks. We really hardly even know each other, period.”

“I study people, remember? It’s my job to retain detail and learn from it. Adjust to it. And I thought we got to know each other pretty well that night. You got me to reveal things I’ve never told another living soul. You hold a power over me, Fox. And instead of running from it, I ran to it. That’s why I gave you my pin. That’s why I want to give this a shot.”

Jayla gripped her beer so hard her knuckles turned white. She fully intended on flirting for some fun at the party, but she didn’t expect anything to come of it. While SEALs were pretty to look at, they had a notorious rep for quick romps and even quicker exits. She refused to be a notch on a bedpost.

But her plans nosedived the minute she laid eyes on that Hound guy. Her head screamed at her to run far, far away. Her vadge yelled louder, forcing her to picture him with a lot less clothing involved. Damn his taunting forearm porn. Sinewy muscles flexed every time he took a drink of his beer. She ached to lick the plump lips framed by his stark jawline, with a chin that stuck out just a hair too far, yet it seemed a perfect fit on his asymmetrical face. Add in his big, broody forehead and she was done for.

His deep brown eyes locked onto her own, holding her in a staring match. The intensity in them freaked her out a little. A sure fire sign that when this guy wanted something, he’d let nothing get in his way. She broke their gaze and focused her attention on his short, dark brown hair, finding a pair of fancy-ass sunglasses sitting on top like some hot-shot movie star.

Find something annoying about him, Jayla, it’ll be easier to diffuse the situation and walk away. And make it quick before you do something really stupid, like give him a lap dance on the cooler.

She glanced at some movement behind him only to find another SEAL headed her way, wearing a shit-eating grin with fuck-me eyes. Definite womanizing material. A pretty boy, with the bed count to match probably. Shit.

She focused back on Noah as she summed up her options. Plan A—exit the party early. Or Plan B…which was still a work in progress. Since Melinda drove them both to the party, she was stuck. Plan B it would have to be. Regret already toiled in her gut at the thought.

“Kiss me,” she whispered, not believing the words actually made it out of her head.

Noah blinked. “Say what?”

“Are you sure you’re not deaf?” She sucked in a deep breath and launched herself at his lips.

He stumbled backward before wrapping one arm around her waist, keeping their balance. Jayla dropped her bottle behind him and slid her hands along his neck, taut with muscle and sun-kissed warmth. A twinge of excitement hit her belly as their lips met. For a shocked moment his mouth froze, before his lips slanted and welcomed her.

His cologne hit her nose, sending another frisson of adrenaline through her. He curled his fingers into her back. “What are you doing?” he mouthed against the kiss.

“Just go with it, okay?” she whispered back, still pressed to his mouth.

“Fine.” His lips curled into a smile and his other arm snaked around her, dipping her backwards as he deepened the kiss, sliding his tongue past her lips.

Jayla’s heart plunged to her stomach, an impressive feat considering she now hung upside down in Noah’s arms. His tongue swept away all thoughts as he explored her mouth with the fervor of a hormonal teenager, but far better technique. Her hands that once held the warmth of his neck now clung to his thick biceps for dear life, curling her nails into his skin. That was going to leave a mark.

“What are you doing?” she groaned into the kiss.

His lips vibrated against hers as he chuckled. “Going with it.”

EXCERPT

Dacey Morgan straightened her mini skirt and tugged her shirt down to showcase the girls a little better. It wasn’t her first time coming to Braxton Ranch, and she doubted it would be her last. Tyson Braxton had left the sleepy little town of Silvercrest at the age of eighteen with a determination to save the world, and he’d returned eight years later a broken man. She didn’t feel sorry for him, but her heart did ache for all that he had suffered. If an hour spent in her company could ease his loneliness—and a little something else—then she was all for it.

Her phone rang, and she pulled it from her small purse. Carlos flashed across the screen, and she stuck her tongue out at her phone before answering.

“I’m at Braxton Ranch,” she said. “You know I have a standing appointment here every Tuesday and Friday.”

“I told you there was a party at the edge of town, and I needed everyone there,” Carlos said. “You know what happens when you defy me.”

Her stomach clenched. Yeah, she knew exactly what happened, but it would be worth it just to spend some time with Tyson. She might have to charge him to keep her pimp happy, but it didn’t mean she couldn’t enjoy the man’s company. He treated her like fine china and not like a crappy Styrofoam plate. She was trailer trash and a whore to boot. No one showed her the least bit of kindness, except Tyson Braxton.

“I’ll come to the party when I’m finished here.”

“No. You’ll go home after you’re finished there and you’ll wait for me. I mean it, Dacey. Don’t defy me on this or your punishment will double.”

She knew she could survive his punishments, but double wasn’t something she looked forward to. If he wanted her home after she was finished with Tyson, then that’s where she would go. Her heart thumped in her chest as she clutched her phone.

“I’ll go home,” she said. “Now I need to go. He’s waiting for me.”

Carlos hung up on her, and she slid her phone back into her purse. Her hands trembled a little as she thought about what was going to happen after she got to her trailer, and then she blew out a breath to calm her nerves. The last thing she needed was for Tyson to know what was going on. He might be broody and antisocial, but he also had a sense of right and wrong, and she had no doubt that he would try to protect her. It wasn’t his battle to fight. It was hers.

She pinched her cheeks to add a little color to her face and then carefully walked across the gravel drive to the wide front porch. Her heels sounded like gunshots as she walked up the steps and approached the wood door. Even though Tyson has always told her she could walk right in, she’d never felt comfortable doing that. Pressing the doorbell, she waited for him to answer. There was a bit of cussing on the other side of the portal and then the door was jerked open.

Tyson scowled down at her, his chocolate eyes narrowed and his lips pressed tightly together. Shoving the door further open, he practically jerked her into the house. Dacey stumbled a little on her heels, but before she could topple over, Tyson wrapped an arm around her waist and hefted her over his shoulder. He slammed the door shut, slid the bolt into place, and then carried her to the kitchen with a halting gate.

Dacey clutched at his sides, the thin material of his wife beater warm to the touch. His boots scraped against the hardwood floors. Tyson dumped her onto a wooden chair, and she pushed her hair out of her face. He’d made dinner?

“I thought you might be hungry,” he said as he claimed the seat across from her. “You’re too damn skinny.”

Her cheeks warmed, and she looked down at her plate. He’d filled it with fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, and a biscuit. It wasn’t her fault she didn’t have much weight on her. After Carlos would take his cut, she would be barely left with enough to keep the utilities turned on at her trailer. Thankfully, she owned the rusted piece of crap, so she didn’t have to worry about rent, but running water and electricity were necessities, as was the small window unit she had in her living room.

Dacey took a hesitant bite and then closed her eyes as the flavor of the crisp chicken exploded on her tongue. She couldn’t remember the last time she’d eaten anything so good, and she wished the moment could last forever. Her stomach rumbled in appreciation as she took another bite, chancing a glance at Tyson. His mocha skin looked even darker against the white tank.

“You didn’t have to make me dinner.” She swirled her fork through the mashed potatoes. “But thank you. It’s really good.”

About the Author

Paige Warren spends her days weaving tales about alpha male cowboys and the women who love them. There’s nothing hotter than a man in tight Wranglers and a pair of well-worn boots. You have to admit, there’s something sexy about a man who knows how to use a rope!

A cat lover, she has more than one furbaby running around, keeping her company in the wee hours of the morning as she tries to find just the right way to say “His skin gleamed, the early morning rays caressing his sun bronzed flesh, as he studied her from beneath the brim of his Stetson.” Or, you know, something similar.

When Paige isn’t dolling out tons of affection on the furbabies, or slurping down a pot of coffee (Yes! A whole pot!) so she can get in her daily word count, she enjoys reading and watching movies – romances, usually.

Sawyer spends her days surrounded by numbers and nights with a bottle of vodka to numb the darkness of her past. Guys like sexy, tattooed Andrew are exactly what Sawyer needs to avoid. Look but don’t touch—that’s the rule. If only his eyes weren’t so blue, and his abs not so chiseled….

When Sawyer resists his brand of charm, Andrew uses every devious tactic he knows to pull her from her shell. Falling in love was never part of the plan.

Excerpt:

Sawyer’s hands slid down his shoulders, past his chest, and back up. She knew what came next, but how to get there was another story entirely. Once again, he read her mind, and, chuckling to himself, kissed a path along her throat, his hands taking a different route to her breasts. His soft lips contrasted with the scruff of his beard, rubbing the skin above her collarbone. Andrew cupped her in his hands, teasing her until a sound like a sigh and moan left her lips that made his breathing quicken.

He lifted his head and smiled. “You like that?”

Sawyer nodded, not trusting her voice.

“Tell me what you want, Sawyer.” He moved his thumb in a slow, soft circle over the tip, making her arch up into his touch. “This?”

Her breath caught as his free hand repeated the action on her other breast. “Yes.” She hissed, rolling her hips into his.

A sexy rumble sounded in Andrew’s chest. She ground herself against his hardness again, and this time, his laugh died away. He lowered his head and caught her lips in a searing kiss while he gripped her hips and thrust his length against her core once, twice. They stayed that way, moving against each other as he kissed and nibbled down her throat to her breasts, until his mouth covered her nipple and teased a cry from her lips. Until every conscious thought dissolved into pressure and blinding white lights and her empty core clenched and pulsed. Until his grip on her hips was almost bruising and he shuddered above her.

Sawyer was lost in him, in the way he made her feel. She shimmied, trying to get him at her entrance. Andrew stilled, resting his forehead on her chest.

“Give me a sec,” he said, his breaths hot on her aching buds.

Her chest heaved. She thought he’d take some time to—well, she didn’t know—before getting the condom. Shit! How could she have been so stupid? Trying to get him inside her without it? She wasn’t on the pill. When she wasn’t having sex at all, birth control hadn’t really crossed her mind all that much.

While her mind raced, Andrew trailed a hand down her belly to her thigh. His fingers danced between her legs and she gasped at the first touch, jerking involuntarily. The intensity of his hands sliding in her folds was somehow more than just his erection. With two fingers, he caressed her sensitive flesh, stoking the flames. Teasing her. She didn’t notice him sliding down her body until she felt his hot breath where his fingers were. She was wet, so wet he slid through her folds with ease. A slow, fierce blush rose from her toes, and she was sure he could see it, even in the dim light.

“God, that’s perfect.” Andrew replaced his fingers with his tongue, making her cry out. “And that, too,” he said with laughter in his voice.

#NewRelease Spotlight: GRAB, by Anne Conley @anneconley10 #GRABit #HotReads #BABB

Jordan Rocco has just received a medical discharge from the Marines and is now working with his brother, Evan, at Pierce Securities. He’s struggling to find his place among these men who have a brotherhood that doesn’t seem to include him. Jordan’s only saving grace is the woman across the hall in his apartment building, with her smart mouth and tight curves.

Mia is wholly focused on making enough money at her crappy job to bring her sister home to live with her, instead of globe-trotting with her mother and the latest in a long line of losers. A boyfriend is not in the cards. But a couple of nights with the hottie across the hallway—to release some pent-up frustrations—wouldn’t be remiss. When she’s grabbed from her apartment in the night, Jordan witnesses the crime, helpless to stop things.

He’s suddenly got a new mission: Before the worst can happen, he has to save the woman who has come to mean more to him than he realized.

***WARNING*** This book has a vague description of events that may cause triggers.
“Hey there, Jordan.  Rough day?”
He shrugged, turning to face her.  She was a hottie, but totally tired.  Dark circles etched around her eyes made the lines around her mouth more pronounced.   “I just hate my job.  That’s all.  No biggie.”
Rueful laughter met his ears.  “Who doesn’t?  Tequila?”  She held up a half-empty bottle they’d started the other night, and shook it.
“Sure, what the hell.  But not much.  You need to get some sleep.”  Closing his door behind him, he took the two steps across the hall to her room.  She waited tables at a diner a few blocks away, all the time.
“You trying to say I look like ass?”  As she stepped aside to let him in, Jordan tried not to brush against her pajama clad body, nor notice the fact all she wore was shorty shorts and a camisole, all in thin thread-bare cotton.  Nearly see-through.  Every curve on display.
No attachments.  But that didn’t mean sex was off the table, as long as she understood the stakes.  Or his lack of desire for stakes.
“No, you look fine, but that set of luggage you’re wearing under your eyes could use some leather oil,” he tried to joke, but felt bad immediately when he saw her stricken face.  “Hey, wait.  I was kidding.  Don’t get all mad.  How long has it been since you had a day off?”  She waited tables every damn day, as far as he could tell.
She shrugged as she got shot glasses down from the cabinet in the kitchenette.  “Two weeks, or three.  Not sure.  Had a double today, that’s why I’m so tired.”  The house had been busted into four tiny apartments, each one a small living room with an attached kitchen.  So when Mia turned around, Jordan was there, bumping into her.
“Then let me wait on you for a change,” he whispered.  He watched the pulse on her neck pound rapidly, and her breasts heave with heavier breaths.  That was good.  So she wouldn’t be opposed to sex.  He hadn’t thought so, but affirmation was nice.  “Salt?”
She nodded, reaching behind her to grab the shaker, and handed it to him, wordless, enormous brown eyes tracking his movements.  Mia’s shoulder and neck were calling out to him, that smooth expanse of bronzed skin was so beautiful.  Just to test something, Jordan lowered his head, and suckled there, leaving a small kiss behind.
Her sharp inhale was accompanied by her fingers immediately clamping down on the countertop.  Good.
Swiping his tongue across her shoulder, he left a long wet trail that he sprinkled salt across.  “I like you, Mia,” he began.  He needed to get everything out up front.  “I think we could have some fun, don’t you?”  She nodded, looking at him from half-closed eyes.  Sexy fucking eyes.  Eyes that told him to fuck her right now.  But he wasn’t going to do it like that.  Not tonight.  “Good.  Because neither of us has time for strings, right?”  He was looking at her, really close, but he wasn’t touching her, just looking.
“You want to have sex, right?  No relationships?” she breathed.  “I’m totally down with that.”  She gasped the words out at him, and he mentally high fived himself before swiping his tongue across the line of salt, tasting her shoulder with relish before swigging straight from the bottle of tequila.
When he went in for a kiss, she stopped him with a finger on his lips.  “You did it wrong, hot shot.”
That was one of the things he really liked about Mia.  She was cool.  Almost like one of the guys, only she had tits and a pussy, and an ass men would die for.  And Jordan had an erection that would jackhammer concrete, and she was telling him he was doing it wrong?
Yeah, she was golden at getting his mind off his shitty job.
Smirking now, he took a step back, hands up.  “Teach it, oh mighty one.”
