Excerpt:
Wiping the crumbs off his jeans, Finn reached into his
backpack and threw an apple at me, which I caught with a deft hand.
            “Nice
catch,” he said, grinning.
            I
flung the apple up into the air and caught it in my other hand. “I played third
base. Little League.”
            “You
mean baseball?”
            I
nodded.
            “Never
seen a game myself.”
            I
gaped at Finn. “You mean you live in Chicago, and you’ve never been to a Cubs
game?”
            He
shrugged. “Not interested.” Finn’s eyes lit up, and he shoved me playfully with
his shoulder. “Now hurling. That’s a
good game.”

“Well, they’re totally
different. That’s not even a fair comparison,” I said with a sniff.

“Fair enough,” Finn said,
wistful. “Really, nothing can compare
with hurling.”

            I
laughed. “Moiré tried to explain the rules to me once, but she lost me after
hurley stick.”
            “Oh,
it’s simple, really.” Finn jumped down and rummaged around the rubble until he
found a large branch. He swung it, the stick cutting through the air, slowly at
first, but then with more force. Finn’s chest muscles rippled between the flaps
of his leather jacket, and my blood pulsed in my ears at the sight of him,
dancing from foot to foot as he practiced his swing.
            “Now
the point of hurling,” Finn began, “is to use this stick, the hurley stick.” He
raised the old branch in the air. “To get a little ball called a sliotar either over or under your
opponent’s goalpost.” Finn picked up a handful of small rocks and, using his
“hurley,” sent a pebble whizzing over the stone wall, inches from my head.
            “Hey,
watch it!”
            Finn
smiled up at me. “You with me so far?”
            I
nodded.
            “Now,”
Finn said. “If the ball flies under the goalpost into the net, it’s worth three
points.” Finn sent another pebble skittering against the wall, right next to my
boot. “But you have to get it past the keeper, and that can be a challenge.”
His eyes glittered at me as he swung his stick again. He threw a rock up in the
air and with a loud thwack sent it
zooming over the wall. I held out my hand and caught the stone, the look on
Finn’s face making up for the sting of impact.
            “And
he’s out!” I cried, jumping off the wall and doing a mock victory dance. “Cubs
win!  Cubs win! Wooooooooooooo!”
            Finn
stalked over to me and grabbed my fist. “Will you settle down!” he said,
attempting to pry the pebble from my grip. “I’m trying to teach you a
three-thousand-year-old art form and you’re nattering on about the fecking
Cubs.”
            I
giggled, snatching his hurley stick from his hands.
            “Technical
foul!” Finn barked behind me, but I sprinted away, swinging the hurley over my
head as I climbed the wall.
            “Get
back here, you brat!” Finn bolted after me so quickly, he lost his footing on
the stone wall and tumbled to the ground.
I laughed as he came to his feet, his hair loose, chasing me.
“It’s the bottom of the ninth, bases are
loaded!”
            Finn
made a snatch for the stick, but I feigned to the right.

“Tanner’s up to bat.” I climbed a set of old stairs to nowhere and tossed up
the stone. I popped out my hips and, following through on the turn, sent the
stone flying over the hill and down the cliffs below. I jumped down, swinging
my baseball/hurley bat. “Homerun by Tanner! And the Cubs win the pennant!”

            Finn
smacked into me, and I collapsed to the ground, his wide body over mine as he
grasped for the stick.
            “Dammit,
O’Connell!” I gasped beneath Finn, his whole weight crushing my chest.  “Now I know
for a fact hurling is not a contact
sport!” I laughed as I squirmed to get away, holding out the stick just beyond
his reach.
            “Neither
is baseball!”

With a devilish grin, Finn
tickled my armpit, and I curled up in a fit of giggles. He made a grab for my
wrist, pinning me to the ground, and his gray eyes danced as he looked down at
me. My laughter faded, and running my other hand through his hair, I pulled his
face to mine. He kissed me, a low moan rumbling deep in his throat.

            Finn
nipped my bottom lip with his teeth, and my back arched as our hips melded
together, my better judgment forgotten. He slid his arm beneath my shoulders
and pulled me close against him, kissing me long and hard, and I gasped,
gulping for air as he lowered his mouth to my neck.

“I have to confess something, Angelica. I’ve never forgotten about you. As a boy, I remembered having feelings for you that were more than friendship, not that I could have said what they were. But seeing you now, I know it was the real thing. I loved you then and I still do now. I was really the one who pushed for this trip, not Serapis. I thought, if we came here, I might be lucky enough to find you. And I was, though in a completely unexpected way.”

She blinked rapidly and lifted the shawl from beside her to blot at the tears squeezing from the corners of her eyes. “This has to be a dream.” She sniffled. “You being here so suddenly…saying all the words I’ve imagined you saying.” She took in a shaky breath and looked up at him. “I never married because of you, you know.”

Ahram felt again the overwhelming surge of love that consumed him. It was twice now what it had been before because of all the longing he’d stored up for her over the past century. It was a tidal wave of emotion. He drew her into his arms and kissed her soft lips, felt her full breasts press against his chest, again memorizing the precious feel of her and the sensation of her lips against his. Unexpectedly, she parted her lips for him and their tongues slid against each other. Ah, she tasted so wonderful…delicious…

He broke the kiss.

#NewRelease Spotlight: FOUR WINDS SERIES, by Anne Conley @anneconley10

Four Winds Series
Anne Conley

The Four Winds is a series of stories by Anne Conley of God’s archangels: Uriel—the archangel of destiny, Rafael—the archangel of healing, Gabriel—the messenger, and Michael—the angel of war. Watch as each one defeats the devil, known as Damien, who thinks he’s entitled to their brides. See their struggle as they experience humanity for the first time in the name of love. Warning: contains elements of Christianity, coupled with some sex scenes, and what people may consider heretical viewpoints.

Falling for Heaven

Uriel is one of God’s Four Winds, the Archangel of Destiny. He has helped thousands of people throughout the ages find their destiny according to His will. This time however, what he doesn’t realize, is that it’s his own destiny he’s supposed to fulfill.Heather is an exotic dancer, who’s stage name is Heaven. It’s not that that’s what she’s always wanted to do, it’s just that it helps her pay the bills, and she’s got a lot of bills, with taking care of her mother and her sister. When the mysterious Uriel comes into the club, she can tell he’s different, just how different will rock her world…

Falling for Grace

Rafael is one of God’s Four Winds, the Archangel of Healing. He has answered the countless prayers for healing of loved ones, wondering what it was about the emotion that made humans willing to sacrifice so much.

Grace is a lifeguard who has been on Rafe’s radar since she lost a little boy three years ago. What she doesn’t realize is the green haze that comes over her during a rescue is actually a divine presence who’s about to give up his celestial body to become a very real entity in her life.

While Grace is trying to overcome her own demon, Rafe is discovering his own sexuality, but there’s a darker presence making himself known. The Deceiver wants what Rafe is getting, and he’ll do whatever it takes to have her.

Falling for Hope

Hope is an eccentric librarian who lives with her five cats and loves to spend her time fantasizing about living in a world of shape-shifters, vampires, and fairies. Although the existence of a paranormal world is far from Hope’s reality, she can’t help but sense there’s something different about the mysterious man lurking in her library.

Gabriel is God’s Strength, the Messenger, who’s been tasked with delivering the Word for millennia. His most recent assignment will be his last, to fall in love and become human. But he can’t quite figure out what he’s done to displease the Boss. Gabriel’s latest assignment might be the hardest, but this gorgeous rubenesque quirk of a woman definitely has him intrigued.

Falling for Faith

i
In this, the fourth book in the Four Winds Series, the story is more intense, Damien is more intense, the sex is more intense. The entire series thus far has escalated into this, the archangel of war’s story.

Michael, the archangel of war, is pissed. Humanity has taken every last vestige of any feelings he might have had and colored them in with cynicism. He’s ready to be done. So when The Boss gives him the deal, he’s eager for his mortality, at any cost, regardless of who he has to ‘fall in love’ with to get it. Blessed death. That’s what he’s looking forward to. When he finds out what Faith does for a living, he’s pissed off all over again.

Faith is a cat burglar, but when she inadvertently makes a deal with Damien, Michael steps in to protect what is rightfully his. She’s not over her own tragic past, and this hulking bundle of hotness can’t change that. But when he insists on protecting her, claiming her, and dominating her, she is powerless to deny her own emotions.

For mature audiences. Contains swear words, sex, elements of BDSM, and possibly heretical viewpoints.

Falling for Cyn

Damien is bad—the original Evil. Satan from Hell on Earth has been his identity since forever. The Devil. Beelzebub. Minister of Evil. Prince of Darkness. Lucifer. Old Scratch.

He’s never been given a choice in this prison of fate, but it’s his turn now.

Hell is about to meet his match. When Damien gets a woman, the only underworld he’s ever known changes. She’s chosen for him, but she’s enough…

Cynthia doesn’t believe in Hell; she believes in kindness and science, and the greater good. She’s perfect, and pure and…

dying.

But she’s his.

And he’ll move Heaven and Hell to keep her.

This is Anne Conley’s final installment in the Four Winds series.

Excerpt

It happened so fast, I barely had time to breathe. One moment I was standing in front of Finn and the next moment his hands gripped my shoulders, his lips pressed against mine. The blood rushed in my ears, and my heart pounded as he deepened the kiss. Every nerve in my body fired with desire as he drew me closer. I sank in to him for a brief second, letting the heat of his skin draw me in, but then I remembered who he was, his oaths, his allegiances.
With a cry of protest, I wrenched myself free, panting and heaving, trying to ignore the hot ache settling in my abdomen. God, I wanted him. Stupid Elizabeth. Stupid.

He stared at me in shock, his fingers on his lips, as if he wasn’t quite sure what had just happened.
I took that moment of confusion to swing my hand around and slap!
His head jerked back, and a palm print bloomed bright on his cheek.

“What the hell are you doing?”
He took a deep breath and paced the room. “I-I’m sorry,” Finn stammered, straightening his jacket and retreating to the door. “I don’t know what came over me, I—”

“You should really ask first, you know?” I bit my bottom lip. In spite of the stinging sensation in my hand, a part of me felt drawn to Finn, a hot, spellbinding gravity luring me to him. I took a step forward.

“I’m sorry.” Finn fumbled with the doorknob. “I’ve made a horrible error in judgment. Please forgive me.”

I snorted. “You know, if kissing me is so terrible, why do you keep doing it?”
Finn whirled around. “That’s not what I mean, Elizabeth. Your kiss is…perfect. You’re beautiful, you’re…”

Beautiful?

I took two steps forward, caging him in. “Then what is it?”
Finn’s warm breath brushed my cheek. “I can’t…I can’t control myself around you,” he said in a strained voice.

“Is that what you want?” I raised my eyes to meet his dark gaze. “Control?” I traced my fingers against the back of his neck, my hands seeking his scalp. Finn’s body relaxed, his invisible armor crumbling beneath my touch. Heat emanated from his body as I moved in closer.

“Elizabeth,” he said. “We shouldn’t.” But his voice was soft, and his lips brushed my ear, and I tangled my hands in his hair, silky strands running through my fingers.

“Kiss me,” I whispered against his jaw.

“Elizabeth—!”

I pushed my hips against him, and he groaned low in his throat.

“Do it.”

“No!”

“Ye—” But I didn’t even finish the word as his mouth covered mine, hot, wet, and hungry. His arms slid down, and he grabbed my waist, his fingers traveling down the whispering green silk until he pulled my hips against him. His tongue darted between my teeth, shifting his weight so I could feel his desire through his trousers.

“Oh, God, you’re not…you’re not dead inside…” I said, my fingers grasping onto his suit jacket.

“Do you feel that?” He thrust again. I gasped, my knees growing weak until I thought I would collapse to the floor.

“Yes…”

Alpha Awakened

Fated Foxes, Book 1

Release Date: February 18, 2016
Erotic Romance, Shifter Romance

*Note: Alpha Awakened is the sequel to Alpha’s Vixen in the Bad Alpha Anthology, but it can be read as a standalone. Amazon Universal Link for Bad Alpha

Blurb
Hale, a fox shifter, hates everyone and everything, especially himself. He’s an angry, bitter, mentally unstable drunk who blames himself for his mate’s death. Not being able to tolerate being in the presence of female fox shifters, uncontrollable rage erupts when he meets Hope, and he’s torn between killing her and kissing her.

Hope knows she has to have Hale the second he steps inside her shop. The fox inside her comes to life and demands to be claimed. Even though Hale is vulgar, volatile, and threatens her at every turn, she wants to ease his pain, bring joy back into his life, and make him hers.

Can Hope break through Hale’s walls and awaken the alpha within, or will Hale finally scare her away for good?

Excerpt
Hope’s skin itched. She’d been so busy with the shop, she hadn’t shifted in days. She peeled off her clothes and laid them neatly on the couch, then stepped outside and let her fox free.

She dashed across the property, the fresh night air and the feel of grass beneath her paws invigorating her. She sniffed out a frog and nosed it with her snout. Even though they made a tasty snack, she’d already eaten dinner and watched it bounce away.

After making a few laps, she raised her nose, sniffed, and froze dead still. Hale’s scent and the stink of liquor hit her. Excitement warred with anxiety as she spotted his beautiful Fire and Ice fox form standing at the bottom of the steps to the porch. Correction. Not standing. More like swaying and stumbling. Falling down and staggering to all fours, and repeating the action. She wondered how much he’d drunk to be in that bad of shape and how he even made it this far. And why was he there?

Even in his incapacitated state, she marveled at his beauty. Fluffy, cream-colored fur covered his legs and chest then morphed with the red and light brown that peppered the rest of his body.

When he fell again, she wanted to run to him, to help him, but in his debilitated state, she wasn’t sure if it was a good idea or not. When he suddenly shifted to human, she gasped. Even though every one of his ribs was clearly defined, he was still beautiful.

He sat there swaying and staring at the cabin for several minutes. Then he buried his face in his hands, his shoulders shaking. She didn’t think he’d appreciate her seeing him so broken, in addition to being there at all, but she had to comfort him. Or die trying.

She padded up to him and nosed his arm. He jerked and fell over before pushing himself back up and staring at her with wet, vacant eyes. The anger she’d expected didn’t come. Instead, he reached out and clumsily stroked her fur. A pained expression crossed his face and tears streamed down his cheeks as he laid back on the ground and curled his malnourished body into a ball.

Hope shifted to human, squatted beside him, and took his hand. The vacant expression disappeared as his gaze raked over her nakedness.

“Come inside,” she urged softly, trying to ignore the arousal spiking her veins. It wasn’t time for that. When he sat up with her help and she saw the erection jutting from between his legs, she instantly went wet.

He inhaled long and deep and she knew he could smell her arousal. His erection twitched and before she knew what was happening, he shoved her backward and pounced on top of her. “Inside,” he slurred.

Excerpt

I turned the corner and took in the large man towering over Candace’s shiny blond head. Tapping his foot and muttering something about being “late for another meeting,” he shot her a menacing scowl. He clutched the edge of the desk as if he might overturn it and swallow our intern whole like a mini eggroll.

Candace bit her lip, her big brown manga eyes wide with bubbling anxiety as she fumbled with some files.

I hated a bully. Being an army brat with a new school almost every year, I could spot one a mile away.

“Can I help you?” I threw back my shoulders and tried to make myself appear taller.

The man puffed his linebacker chest. “Finn O’Connell. I’m with the Trinity Foundation. I have an appointment with Dr. Kevin Forrester.” He had a crisp Irish accent, his consonants cutting through the shafts of afternoon light spilling into the room.

“I’m sorry, but Dr. Forrester is out.”

Where are you, old man?

I stepped forward, pasting a confident smile on my face. “Is there something I could help you with?”

Mr. O’Connell stalked over to me, and I fought the urge to step back. Six foot five and no problems with invading personal space, the man from Trinity emitted waves of heat, and his body hummed like a pulsing engine shrouded in gleaming black chrome.

My heart raced as I tilted my head up and up to meet a pair of intense gray eyes that made me forget my last name. Gritting my teeth, I steeled myself, crossing my arms. Never show fear: rule number one for managing the bullies in your life.

“Dr. Forrester recently acquired a new manuscript—”

The Book of Arranmore!

Finn tilted his head, trying to make sense of the jumble of consonants I had just vomited. “Excuse me?”

“Um, yes. The Book of Arranmore. Sorry.” I twisted my mouth into some semblance of a smile, but inside my stomach knotted, thinking of the changing pictures, the shifting text. “It’s a wonderful new addition to our collection.”

Finn glanced down the hallway toward the archives. “Would you mind if I take a look?”

“Um…” I curled my fingers into my palm. “I think it might be best if we wait for Dr. Forrester. If you would like to come back later—”

“No, I would not like to come back later. My time is precious, Miss…?”

I raised my eyebrows, bristling at the Miss. “Tanner. Elizabeth Tanner.”

“Miss Tanner,” he said. “As a contributing member to this institution, I think I am entitled to a small preview.”

Entitled. Only certain kinds of men could throw that word around. Men in Burberry leather trench coats, dry-cleaned, pressed shirts so white they glistened like morning snow. Men with large checkbooks. Men, who, with the flick of a lazy, indecipherable signature could decide the destiny of my academic career.

“Of course, Mr. O’Connell,” I said. “We have it in the back here, if you would like to follow me. I was just working on it.”

Finn rode my heels, and I hurried to keep some distance between us. Opening the door and crossing the reading room, I darted to my workspace, leaning against the desk to establish my territory. I raised my chin, but inside my stomach fluttered as Finn took in the mountains of scattered notes I had amassed over the past few weeks. A messy desk is the sign of a true genius, right? Judging from the scowl on the Irishman’s face, he didn’t seem to think so.

I took a deep breath and was about to open my mouth to wax intellectual on The Book of Arranmore when my hand slipped over the computer mouse. AC/DC screeched across the wood-paneled walls, elaborating on the calamitous effects of American thighs.

I let out a squeak, whirling around and fumbling to press pause, my hands shaking violently. The music stopped mid-scream, and then silence.

“Interesting taste in music, Miss Tanner.”

His words burned hot against the side of my neck, and I gasped. Finn stood a mere inch behind me. He stared down at the computer screen, the blue light flashing on the teasing smile spread across his face. Heat bloomed in my cheeks, and I clicked on the tiny X to close out the program.

“Oh, that wasn’t mine!” I brushed my hair out of my eyes. “These dang undergrads. I mean, who listens to AC/DC, right?”

Finn’s smile faded, his dark stare replacing the brief lightness in his features. I chewed on my lip, arrested for a moment by the impossible length of his eyelashes.

“Is this it?” Finn turned and planted his fists on the table, caging the manuscript with his arms.

“Yes.” Closing in on Finn, I breathed in the clean, leather smell emanating from his long coat. Warm and intoxicating, he smelled like a mix of fresh laundry and badass.
